Octinoxate absorbs UVB radiation (290–320nm) and is one of the most used chemical UV filters globally due to its high UVB protection and cosmetically elegant feel. It penetrates skin and is detectable in blood after application. Research suggests mild oestrogenic activity and potential thyroid disruption in animal studies.
Banned alongside oxybenzone in Hawaii for reef toxicity. Detectable in blood after application. Mild endocrine disruption in animal studies. Considered safe at current doses by EU SCCS but with data gaps. Prefer mineral alternatives if concerned.
