Propylparaben

Also known as: Paraben, E216

High ConcernpreservativeEWG: 7-10

A stronger endocrine-disrupting paraben linked to decreased fertility and reproductive harm.

How it works

Propylparaben is one of the more potent parabens in terms of oestrogenic activity. Animal studies link it to decreased sperm count and quality, disrupted testosterone levels, and reproductive organ changes. It penetrates skin more readily than methylparaben. The EU restricts it to 0.14% individually or in combination with butylparaben in products for children under 3.
