Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4

Also known as: Matrixyl, Pal-KTTKS

Generally SafepeptideEWG: 1

The most studied signal peptide — it triggers collagen, elastin, and fibronectin synthesis.

How it works

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is a fragment of procollagen I, chemically conjugated to a fatty acid (palmitoyl) for skin penetration. It signals fibroblasts to produce collagen I, III, and IV, elastin, and fibronectin — the structural proteins that maintain skin firmness and elasticity. Clinical studies demonstrate wrinkle depth reduction comparable to retinol but without the irritation.

Concentration note

Active at 1–4 ppm (very low concentrations). Look for it in the first half of the ingredient list.
