Hyaluronic Acid

Also known as: HA, Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate (salt form)

Generally SafehumectantEWG: 1

A powerful humectant naturally found in skin that holds up to 1,000× its weight in water.

How it works

Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan found naturally in the skin's extracellular matrix. Its high molecular weight form stays on the skin surface to plump and soften. Lower molecular weight forms (under 50 kDa) penetrate more deeply to hydrate inner skin layers. It does not actually add water — it holds the water already present in skin.

Concentration note

Effective from 0.1–2%. Higher is not always better — molecular weight matters more than concentration.
