💄 Scan LabelAlso known as: Ceramide 3, N-stearoyl phytosphingosine
The most abundant ceramide in human skin, essential for a healthy skin barrier.
Ceramide NP is a lipid molecule that forms the 'mortar' between skin cells in the stratum corneum. It fills the spaces between corneocytes, preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and blocking entry of irritants and allergens. Ceramide NP works synergistically with cholesterol and fatty acids — the ideal ratio is approximately 1:1:1 for optimal barrier repair.
Concentration note
Typically 0.2–2%. Most effective when combined with cholesterol and fatty acids.
No known safety concerns. Naturally identical to skin's own lipids.
