Squalane

Also known as: Olive squalane, Sugarcane squalane

Generally SafeemollientEWG: 1

A lightweight, stable plant-derived oil that mimics the skin's natural sebum.

How it works

Squalane is the hydrogenated, stable form of squalene — a lipid naturally produced by sebaceous glands. It forms a breathable film on skin that seals moisture without clogging pores. Its molecular weight is close to the skin's own sebum, making it exceptionally compatible. Modern squalane is derived from olives or sugarcane (replacing the historically used shark liver oil).

Concentration note

Can be used at 100% as a face oil or 1–30% in formulas.
