💄 Scan LabelAlso known as: ZnO, Mineral sunscreen
The broadest-spectrum mineral UV filter — protects against UVA and UVB without hormone disruption.
Zinc oxide physically scatters and absorbs both UVA1 (340–400nm) and UVA2 (320–340nm) and UVB (280–320nm) radiation. Unlike chemical UV filters, it works immediately on application, does not need to be absorbed, and does not undergo photodegradation. It is also anti-inflammatory and is used in diaper rash creams for its skin-soothing properties.
Concentration note
10–25% in sunscreens. Higher concentrations provide more coverage but can leave white cast.
No known significant safety concerns. Nano-particle zinc oxide is considered safe by major regulatory bodies — nanoparticles do not penetrate intact skin. Environmentally safer than chemical UV filters.
