Cetearyl Alcohol

Also known as: Fatty alcohol, Cetostearyl Alcohol

Generally SafeemollientEWG: 1

A fatty alcohol emollient and thickener — completely different from drying alcohols and actually moisturises skin.

How it works

Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols — long-chain fatty alcohols derived from plant or coconut sources. Despite the 'alcohol' name, it is completely different from SD alcohol or ethanol. It functions as an emollient, emulsifier, and thickener, adding richness to creams and conditioning properties to hair products. It is non-drying and non-irritating.
