💄 Scan LabelAlso known as: TXA
A newer anti-inflammatory brightening agent effective against melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Tranexamic acid inhibits plasminogen activators and melanocyte-stimulating hormone release, reducing melanin production at a different point in the pathway to arbutin or vitamin C. Clinical trials show particular efficacy for melasma — a notoriously difficult-to-treat form of pigmentation — and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne. It also has anti-inflammatory effects that reduce redness.
Concentration note
Effective range: 2–5% topically.
No known significant safety concerns at topical concentrations used in cosmetics.
