Glycolic Acid

Also known as: AHA, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Sugar cane acid

Low ConcernAHAEWG: 4-6

The most potent AHA exfoliant — it dissolves dead skin bonds to reveal brighter, smoother skin.

How it works

Glycolic acid has the smallest molecular weight of all AHAs, allowing the deepest penetration into the epidermis. It works by breaking the ionic bonds between corneocytes, releasing dead skin cell buildup. It also stimulates collagen production in the dermis and has been shown to reduce signs of sun damage and fine lines with regular use.

Concentration note

OTC: 5–10% effective. Professional peels: up to 70%. Always use SPF when using AHAs.
